Welcome to
Vrikshamitra
Planting trees for a greener tomorrow.
WHO WE ARE
Vrikshamitra Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization committed to creating a greener and more sustainable planet through community-driven tree plantation initiatives. Founded in 2018 by a group of eco-conscious individuals, our mission is to promote environmental awareness, ecological balance, and long-term climate resilience by connecting citizens, schools, RWAs, and local authorities. With over 50,000+ trees planted across multiple regions, we continue to inspire change by turning barren spaces into green zones through grassroots participation.
Full History Behind Formation
The idea of Vrikshamitra was born in 2018 when a small group of nature enthusiasts began conducting weekend plantation drives around Pune. What started as a passionate hobby quickly transformed into a mission to combat deforestation and urban pollution. In 2020, Vrikshamitra was officially registered as a charitable NGO. Since then, we’ve collaborated with municipal bodies, schools, housing societies, and other NGOs to expand our green footprint. By 2023, we reached a milestone of 50,000+ saplings planted and launched our “Smart Forest Initiative” using technology to monitor tree growth. Our journey is rooted in the belief that every tree planted is a step toward a cleaner, healthier future.
Inception and Inspiration
The idea of Vrikshamitra was born out of a simple yet powerful observation: despite growing urbanization and technological advancement, our connection to nature was fading. A group of environmentally conscious individuals came together with the belief that every citizen could play a part in reversing environmental degradation. Their early initiatives included community tree plantation drives, awareness campaigns in schools, and collaboration with local authorities to protect green zones. These humble beginnings sowed the seeds of what would become a full-fledged environmental movement.
From Initiative to Movement
The early efforts proved that people were willing to participate if given the opportunity and guidance. The team began organizing:
Tree plantation events in open spaces, degraded lands, and roadside areas.
Awareness sessions in schools, colleges, and community halls.
Adopt-a-Tree campaigns, where individuals could pledge to care for saplings.
What started as small weekend activities began to grow into a regular, organized effort. Volunteers increased, local authorities began to notice, and the scope of the work expanded.

Philosophy and Values
The foundation is built on the belief that environmental conservation is not the responsibility of a few experts — it’s a collective duty. Its core values include:
Sustainability – Planting not just for today but for generations to come.
Community Participation – Engaging people of all ages and backgrounds.
Education – Knowledge as the seed for lasting environmental change.
Action over Awareness Alone – Turning environmental concern into concrete steps.
Vision for the Future
Vrikshamitra Foundation envisions a future where every individual treats trees as companions and protectors, not just resources. With plans to expand across more regions and partner globally, the foundation aims to make “green” not just a color – but a way of life.
