From a Single Seed to a National Movement
VrikshaMitra began in 2018 when a small group of nature enthusiasts in Pune decided that complaining about deforestation wasn’t enough — they had to act. What started as a weekend tree planting initiative in local parks quickly grew into a full-fledged environmental movement.
Today, we operate across 20+ cities, working with schools, corporates, farmers, and local communities to plant native trees, restore degraded land, and educate the next generation about environmental stewardship.
Our name — “VrikshaMitra” — means “Friend of Trees” in Sanskrit. It captures our belief that every person, regardless of age or background, can become a protector of the natural world.
